Elliott County Veterans Continued

Amanda Lyons, the only daughter of Jarret and Perlina, was born Dec 11, 1872.  Around

1892, she married Allen Samuel Clark, who was born Dec 19, 1871.  They had 8 children.

            Fleming Lanford “Lan” Lyons, the youngest son of Jarret and Perlina, was born about 1875,

and died in Montana in Dec 1954.

                    Lewis Lyon: Pvt., Co., A, 69th Ky., Ma? U.S.A.  In 1890 he stated that he entered

military service on May 20, 1864, and served to June 22, 1864.  No injuries or illnesses were

mentioned but he indicated that his post office was Stephens.

            I am unable to find a date for the marriage of Lewis Lyons; however, a birth record for

twin sons, Elias and Elisha, records Mary Sparks as the mother.

            According to the 1860 Lawrence Co census, Lewis and Mary had a son, Wiley, age 6 years,

which might indicate that their marriage occurred around 1853, most likely in Lawrence Co.

            This same census record indicates that Lewis was 29 years of age, and that Mary was 26.

Other than Wiley, there were 2 more children: Thursday, age 4, and Lewis L., 2.  Also in Lewis;

household were Malinda Lyons, age 24; Jesse Lyons, 16; and Francis, 11.  I am sure these

individuals were near relatives, perhaps a brother and sisters.

            In 1870, the Lewis Lyons family was found living in the newly formed Elliott Co.  He indicated that he was 39 years of age, which was consistent with the age he gave in 1860; Mary

was 36.  Their children named in this census report were: Wiley, 15; Lizzean, 11; Emily, 10;

Samantha, 7; Cyntha, 4; and twins, Dennis and Lucinda, age 1 year.  The children named Lewis L.

and Thursday in the 1860 census were not mentioned in 1870.

            In the 1880 census, Lewis Lyon was 49 years of age: Mary was 45.  Children listed in this

report were: Lewis L., 21; Emily, 19; Cyntha, 14; Dennis, 11; Sinia, 11; Washington, 7; and

Elisha, 5.  Also in the Lewis Lyon home was William Lyon, 26, single, and a “Boarder”, and Lewis’

widowed mother, Sinia, age 77 years.

            In 1890, the Elliott Co Tax Assessments list shows that Lewis Lyon was a resident of the

Little Fork Precinct, and the owner of 68 acres of land.  This list indicates that there were no

children between the ages of 6 and 20 in the Lyon household.

            By the time the 1900 Elliott Co census was taken, Lewis Lyon, Sr., and Mary were both

living in the home of their son, Elisha.  Lewis was 68 years old, having been born in Apr of

1832; Mary was 66, and was born in Nov of 1833.  They had been married 45 years.

            I do not find Lewis and Mary Lyons named in the 1910 census, therefore, I assume they

were deceased by that year.
